article from the washington post about nagins comments to "a room full of black newspaper publishers and editors at the Capital Hilton." its hard for me to take nagin seriously, considering he did not visit the superdome once during the storm. and further would not participate in the little planning during the storm that was taking place in city hall, because he felt it was unsafe. it was unsafe for nagin, but not unsafe for those attempting to take action to deal with the chaos.

I once had a conversation with two Touro Hospital workers who proudly voted for Ray Nagin. One worker was a black woman, who is a custodial engineer; the other worker was a white man, who is a physical therapist. Both of them agreed that it was very difficult to be mayor of a city as dysfunctional as New Orleans. They agreed he was doing a good job with the resources given. They said that no other candidate, even Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu, had the ability to help out the city as much as he could.
still does not change the fact he never visited the superdome or participate in the planning in city hall because it was unsafe. i could point to many others that ive had conversations with that think nagins a joke
